Step-by-Step Repair Guide
Repairing Hairline Cracks

- Apply bonding agent (optional): For best adhesion, brush concrete bonding agent into the crack.
- Fill with hydraulic cement or patch: Mix repair material per instructions. Press firmly into crack, slightly overfilling.
- Trowel smooth: Level with surrounding surface while material is still workable.
- Cure: Keep moist for 24-48 hours. Protect from traffic.
Repairing Deep Cracks
- Clean and prepare: Same as above—widen, clean, remove debris.
- Insert backer rod: For cracks deeper than 1/2", push foam backer rod into the crack, leaving 1/4-1/2" space at top.
- Apply flexible sealant: Fill remaining space with polyurethane or silicone caulk designed for concrete.
- Tool the sealant: Smooth with a wet finger or caulk tool.
- Let cure: Follow product cure times (24-72 hours typically).
Matching the Repair to Existing Concrete
Repairs rarely match perfectly—concrete darkens with age and weathering. To minimize visibility:
- Use gray-tinted repair products when possible
- Consider coating or staining entire slab after repair
- Apply concrete sealer to blend old and new
- Give repairs time to weather naturally
Preventing Future Cracks
- Install control joints: Cut grooves every 8-10 feet to give concrete a place to crack predictably
